St.Marys...
St.Marys...
School or Church...My sis bought this book from car boot or jumble sale (she can't remember)
Was just wondering if anyone knows Vera Dalton...as my sis would like to return the book to her or any family members.
We do know that Dalton's lived on the Deans years ago,but never see them now.

Re: St.Marys...
Margy, I hope you're able to find the lady, or at least some of her family.
That's a great idea and a wonderful gesture of generosity. =D>
Can you imagine receiving such a sentimental gift like that after 77 years.

Re: St.Marys...
She would be twelve years old when she received that book, she was
born in 1920, so if she's still alive she will be 89.
There is no record of her having married in South Shields, so possibly
she left the area, or got married out of the area. Dalton is a fairly common
name in the area.

Re: St.Marys...
It was probably a Sunday school prize. Rev Garland was the vicar of St Mary's up to the mid 1940s - he married my mam and dad in 1942 and christened me in 1944. Father Hilditch took over from him.
Re: St.Marys...
My Mam and Dad were married there and both me and my sister were Christened there, my sister was Married there. And my uncle was in the choir and an alter boy at St Marys. He was called Gordon Copping and lived on Dean terrace.

Re: St.Marys...
My auntie lived at 64 Thames Lane on the Deans Eatate. The Dalton family lived a few doors further up the street. There were a lot of children - I think they had one of the 4 bedroomed houses. The only one I knew well was June Dalton who was about my age. If there is anything you need to know about them I can ask my cousins..
