place to stay

Post by cushy butterfield »

My hubby and I will be in South Shields for a week in Jan 09. Anyone know of a decent place to stay? Clean, fair price. No dives.
Also looking to rent a car for the week, any advice.
Anyone work at the Hebburn dry docks.
Hubby's ship is coming over from Canada for its yearly dry dock.
Will be good to come over and have a good wander around the old home town. Is the market still on during the winter months.
Whats the winters like over there.
Thanks

Thanks, not been on for a long time
Looking forward to my visit to Shields in Jan/Feb. I bet the place has changed loads in 26 years.
Is Eccleston Street still there. I was born at no 13.
Also is the Market still on on a Monday and Sat.
I will be travelling around via the bus and metro.
Where are the metro stations in South Shields is there more than one.

Hi Cushy,

As already mentioned the Littlehaven Hotel is a good choice, not necessarily the cheapest around, but the views across the river and harbour are truly beautiful. Make sure you get a harbour view and if possible, ask for an upstairs room 228 or 230 or even 214 or 216. These are at the end of the corridors away from the stairs, lift and occasional, noisy parties but have excellent harbour views.

When traveling back, I have used auto-europe car hire many times. They are brokers who check out all the other companies, they see what's available and then usually offer a nice discount below the original car provider. Please be sure to bring your full driving license details as they could, if deemed necessary, refuse your booking. Anyway, I've always had good service from them and it's very easy to arrange online at http://www.auto-europe.co.uk

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for all the info guys. We are looking to stay at the Mill Damm Bed and Breakfast as its quite near the town centre and Metro station. Dont think we are going to rent a car just get the bus and metro etc. Arriving in London and then going to get the train up to Newcastle. Havent booked anything yet so will look at the Little Haven.
