Name slips me

Post by martymont »

Anybody know the name of the record shop that was in Keppel Street, (what its name was in the late 60s) got all my Sounds, NME there as well as listen to the music.

Savilles, they used to be in King Street in the 60s. Pete Edmunsen also had a record shop but I think that was opposite St Hidas church yard where Chris B Watsons was.

Yes up stairs on the corner of Keppel Street and Fowler Street :D I might not have been big in buying records but I frequented clubs in the 1960s

Jarrow was a bit far out for me, the furthest we got to was the 21 club at Tyne Dock, but my number one choice was the old Cellar club in Beach Road. The Latino was for more sophisticated nights :D and the Ranchouse if you were slumming it :D The Beach club for a bit of illegal gambling, La Strada for grab a granny :D Did I miss any, probably :D

Come to think of it the Latino wasn't that sophisticated, do you remember the raised stage and the dances where they stopped the music and said things like....anyone with a tie on take it off.......anyone with a jacket take it off.....if you refused you had to leave the stage till there was only one person left.....I chickened out at Y fronts and socks :D :D :D never won once.

You're right Pilot the cellar club was great. I'm sure that's where the whole Bailey organisation sprang from.

Thursday night at the Tavern was called CRAZY NIGHT..

Games for prizes and stuff on stage....

It was great..I think that was about the first time I started going to nightclubs.

Really good nights with the lasses from Hintons ( corner of Fowler St/Kepple St )

Memories......ahhh
