I remember the second hand record shop, were used to sell and buy LPs. Teddy Boy dressed in Drapes used to examine the record for scratches and then offer you 50pence.
Next day it would be for sale £1.50.
About 1975 i think.

There was or still is, George Green the butcher who unfortunately had to pack it in after a heart attack.
Alan, his eldest son, then took over the business and I believe, is there these days.

What was the name of the pub at the junction with Harton Lane. I know the area is called Winskells and the pub before it was shut was 'The Winskells' but I'm sure when I was a kid it was something else.

For some reason I keep thinking there was a Minchella's on the right hand side of Boldon Lane going towards Stanhope Road - opposite the Value Store - but my wife thinks I'm losing it.

There was a Minchellas on the same block as Spraggons it used to be a coffee bar as well as an ice cream parlour. There is a cafe there now. So you are right Kev.

Much of my record collection ended up at STARS when I had no money to spend.

I still have a 1967 45rpm Purple Haze/Foxy Lady copy I bought there....... I wonder where that is :? :D

Remember Boldon Lane well.
Minchies was there, and STARS, but that was later. Used to get chain from Spraggon's to tie your bike up. Used to be a greengrocer there - Kennedy's - in an old, converted church. There was a very popular chinese takeaway near the Colliery, too. And a paint/wallpaper shop on the corner.

Haven't seen the place for 15 years now - maybe it's time to Google it again.
