South Tyneside playwrights Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood will be represented at the 2008 Latitude Festival with their comedy Son of Samurai.
The duo, whose play Dirty Dusting is currently storming New Zealand, also have another outrageous comedy, Waiting For Gateaux, playing at Winchester Theatre Royal from July 22 to 26.
Son of Samurai is about a Geordie shoe shop salesman who discovers he’s a descendant of a famous Japanese Samurai warrior.
Producer Gareth Hunter, of Ion Productions, said: “It is a cultural clash, a bit like Crocodile Dundee meets Lost In Translation, and even involves some audience participation.
“Like Dirty Dusting and Waiting for Gateaux, Son of Samurai is great fun.”
After the Latitude Festival, Son of Samurai will be performed at Newcastle’s Theatre Royal from Thursday, September 25, to Saturday 27. Other dates include the Customs House, South Shields (September 4 to 6) and the Stockton Arc (September 18 to 20).
