Where was the Station Pub?
hi all,
I remember it being a listed building that was pulled down, it was located just down from where the Woudhave Bar, Mile End Road is today, but my husband and his parents seem to argue that it was where the Woudhave is now. Does anyone have any photos from back then probably around late 70's early 80's? I have done hundreds of searches for this and not found anything so far. There is an old picture of the corner of king street, it shows Royal Bar and you can see the old cinama but thats about it.
Can anyone shed any light on this.
thanks
michelle

Re: Where was the Station Pub?
I have 2 photos of the pub if I remember correctly, and one of the clock, close-up.
I also have a picture of the old Venue building, circa 1970ish, can't remember what it was called then.
Here are some of me oldies:
The North Eastern (Now Manhattans)
Old Ocean Road showing The Ship & Royal Hotel
Thats all I have online, but I have others I can put on later. Me & my brother-in-law are quite interested in local history, and have a gallery here, along with a pub guide, check here:

Amongst other crap!
Thanks for the welcome.

Heres the others, as promised:
Station Hotel Pub 1
Station Hotel Pub 2
Station Hotel Clock Close-Up
Old Gourmont Building (Now Vibe, was Venue/Gladstones)
A rare shot of The Balancing Eel (Bizz Bar)
And a REALLY old one (30's I think) of the two F***S (Norfolk & Suffolk)
There we are, I also have some pictures of the workings of the Town Hall Clock.

Re: Where was the Station Pub?
The Blancing Eel was called the Grapes, changed its name in the 1960s.

Re: Where was the Station Pub?
The Norfolk and Suffolk was called by a rather vulgar name i wont repeat at this time.

I remember the Station on the corner, but was there a club just along the road from it?
Re: Where was the Station Pub?
The Mile End Club was just along from there and the Companions Club was very near too

The Mile End Club was along from the Station bar then the Northern Club a bit further along.

I think the photo was taken during the war as the lorry has white lining to the mudguards to help it be seen in the blackout and the kerb stones and lamp post are painted with alternate black and white areas for the same reason.
