I dream of being able to find something stupid to sell on ebay, that would generate this sort of interest and bidding. There was a case a couple of years ago where people bid thousands for a corn flake or some such thing.

I wish!!
Because normal, sensible things don't get anywhere as much interest usually.

I just hope the bidder realises, after the joke is all over, that he will still be expected to pay out the 18 pounds plus 1 pound postage. It is a genuine auction.

Some people of course have more money than sense. I just wish they were around for my sales items.

Ebay can be a bit weird, people get carried away.eg I have sometimes seen new Tupperware items getting a fair bit more than you would pay for them at a tupperware party. By the time you add postage costs, why would you do it that way?
It's a weird world.
