Boswell Whitaker
I was sorry to read in the gazette of the death of Boswell Whitaker at the age of 95, he was a real river-man, spent over 50 years working for Tyne Tugs, he was always friendly and was a fountain of knowledge of all things to do with the Tyne. RIP.

Re: Boswell Whitaker
It is always sad when such men who have so much knowledge and wisdom gained over the ages pass on. No matter the subject or field of endeavour their wealth of experience and knowledge is irreplaceable.
How was a totally inorganic world able to create organic life? Answer it couldn't and didn't
Re: Boswell Whitaker
Global, he wrote quite a few books on subjects related to the River Tyne, I have a signed copy of his book on the Shields Lifeboat so not everyting is lost. He lived most of his life a few doors away from the Pilot Office overlooking the river.

Re: Boswell Whitaker
It is sad, but at least his knowledge and experiences will live on in his books.
Where is the Pilot's Office by the way Pilot?

Re: Boswell Whitaker
John, I was referring to the old Pilot Office in Greens Place, it was converted to flats in the mid 1980s, the Pilot office is now within the Pilot Watchouse at the end of Lawe Road overlooking the park.
