Bit like my apple trees except this year I didn't clear away the windfalls and the birds are having a slap up meal off them.
After having a really poor crop of apples 2005 the trees were laden last year. My grandson took some for his horse but there's only so much you can do with them hence the birds are benefiting.

Delilahcat, our apples are very sweet when ripe and Mrs P has an electric juicer and turns a lot of them into apple juice, its lovely at breakfast time cold from the fridge.

Yes huge tree but what i noticed was how green the grass was. It just hits you in the eye.
Here at the moment we are not able to water lawns, which means they are all a bit brown. We are not even allowed to wash cars or our house windows. (I suppose every cloud as a silver lining)

I have an apple tree in my garden too,
the apples are deeelish.
I compare them to pink ladies apples.
Bright red, and pink in the middle and very juicy.

When the street I live in was built around 1936 each house had an apple tree planted in the back garden by the builders, when we moved here 31 years ago only about half of the apple trees had survived, now ours is the only one I can see from our back window, why do people cut them down? Its great watching it through the seasons, bare in the dead of winter, then buds in spring, apple blossom around May and ready to harvest in September, Ok it can be a pain clearing up windfalls and leaves but the birds love it and its a small price to pay. My own children used to climb it when they were small and now I can watch my grandchildren doing the same when they visit. :) I would hate to think, one day someone will come along and cut it down after it has given us so much enjoyment over the years. :(

I know what you mean pilot, we have the children in the street lining up for an apple, i love it. Even my window cleaner takes a bag away with him when he comes.........I love the pink apple blossom too.

Yes marrasis we do the same when we get a glut of apples around the middle to end of September. Its amazing how many apples you get from one tree and we always leave some windfalls for the resident Blackbirds they love the apples in the Autumn.
