remember these buses well when my daughter was a baby i was going down town on one. the conductor put her pushchair under the stairs and the driver took the roundabout at the chi too fast, her pushchair shot off the bus and down the road he had to stop the bus and go running after it, i got it back and it done a couple of years for my son after that. they dont make them as good as that now.

Tried to reply to you Della, through message but it says that i cannot send messages as i am new and not wrote any posts.
You have really made my day, hearing about my Dad!
Everyone says the same about him hard as nails and a heart of gold.
I remember playing with kids in your street climbing on walls?
I would love to see the photo if you have time to send me a copy.
Then i might be able to remember you.
They really were the good old days sun always seemed to shine and i have fond memories of Dean Road.
Thanks again for replying will be seeing Mam tomorrow can't wait to tell her!
Still really hurts that i lost my dad so young, he really was funny full of old stories and i love hearing about him, i nearly died when i saw your post the other day, knew it would be him!
Thanks again take care x

Glad you got my message. I will try and find my old photos. The grandchildren are coming to visit and they love to look at the old photos.
As I said in my message your dad was a smashing bloke. Me and my husband were coming home on the bus one night and your dad got on. There was a bloke acting himself and swearing and your dad sorted him out with a look. Think your dad might have worked at Taylors foundry with my dad Jack Rossiter.

hi Delilahcat you have just mentioned Taylours foundry. I has brought back loads of memories of an old family friend from shields, Joe Wood . Joe lived on the road that goes from the simonside arms to a pub near monkton ave, was it the iron horse. Anyway Joe told us kids loads of tales of when he worked in what he called the foondery. he had many burn scars to show for it. Sadly he died last year. thanks for the reminder Bubs :D

you can find the simonside arms here http://www.southshields-sanddancers.co. ... dearms.htm

Hi Bubs my dad worked at Taylors 'foondry' for over 50 years. He was as hard as nails like you say covered in burns and scars from the work. It was really hard work and there was always jobs going so he got loads of people a start. We lived in South Eldon Street and I used to take his 'bait' across at teatime when he was working late. We kids were just slave labour...ha ha. I used to go messages for an old lady in our back lane. Half an ounce of Buck Eye snuff from the newsagents on South Eldon Street bank. When my cousin Kenny Taylor was home on leave from the army the old woman next door asked him to go and get her a bottle of beer and 5 tabs.....still thinking he was one of the kids. He was such a nice lad he went.

Look down the threads to one titled 'Good grief who are these people' you will see a pic of me in my young days

Sless you are making me blush   Mind you would have had to get in a queue back then as I had no shortage of boyfriends.
Bubs I think I am older than you. Talking about the early sixties when we used to hang round South Frederick Street. One of my first boyfriends lived in Marshall Wallis Road. He was killed in a big oil rig disaster years later.
