Your were photographed 60 years ago in the "Eagle Vaults", how old
does that make you now? even I was too young to go in 60 years ago. That
would make you in your mid 70s, is there something you aren't telling us? :?

I was 26 years old before any publican would believe I was over 18. :D

I said I HAD a photograph, Mr. Smith,

The gentlemen in the photo are John Robson, Billy Parry and Ken Gibson captured on a Friday night out in the Eagle Vaults 1953.

I think I may also have a photograph taken in the Jungle circa 1957 on a lads night out just before it all kicked off, I will up that one to when I find it.

Here is the one of The Jungle (I think), sorry about the quality the photograph is a bit of a mess through neglect, having been stored in a damp house many years ago.

p.s. not sure if you can see these as they have not appeared for a while after I have posted, hope I am doing this uploading thing right.

I was wondering if you had the name of the pub correct? could this not have been in the Eagle Vaults?
I have a photograph which looks to have been taken in the exact same table as yours in 1953 - same wallpaper, same border and possibly at the same table but I have written on the back "eagle vaults 1953". As soon as I have figured out how to get images onto this site I will post it.
You could be right. I have always thought it was taken in the Mechanics. I have no idea who took it and how I have it either. I used to be in a drunken stupor most of the time at that age.
I would like to see your photo too 'Delilahcat'

Here is a photo taken in the Eagle Vaults in 1960. Do you know anyone? What about the lovely lady third from the left?

I seem to recall the eagle vaults having a certain reputation in the 1960s raising the question of what were these lovely ladies doing in the Eagle Vaults in 1960 ?

I knew a Ken Gibson but that was about ten years after that photo was taken.
The Ken Gibson I knew was a police officer in South Shields. I often used to
get into the police club at the rear of the police station.

My comment was directed at Delilahcat who said she has a photo taken in the Eagle Vaults
60 years ago with her in it.

Got ya, please accept my apologise, I think the confusion arose as I had replied to your post first but, due to my novice status the posts were being audited by the powers to be before being released into the public domain.

No, it looks like the photo got distorted in the scanning process, I've had
it happen to me once before when I manually operated the scan. Of course
I could be completely off the mark. :D

At a "guess" I think it should look more like this

my nextdoor neighbour in salmon street in 1970/71 used to frequent the jungle in n/s and one night she never returned home and was listed as missing she was a simonside lass originally, i often wondered if she ever turned up as we moved shortly after she was only 19/20 but married with children

I would think that lots of people who drank at 'The Jungle' would occasionally go missing for a day or two - it was that kind of place - that's what made it so exciting for us when we were young :D :D :D
