Isn't it funny how once a film comes out about a certain topic like Vietnam,
which catches the publics imagination there always seems to a few more
type of spin offs.
The greatest war film ever made "platoon" was the first, then came "full metal jacket" then "hamburger hill" I'm sure there was another one?

We Were Soldiers was also a good Vietnam War film, Mr. A, as was Good Morning Vietnam. And both were true stories.mr-angry wrote:Isn't it funny how once a film comes out about a certain topic like Vietnam,

Personally, I quite liked the series "Band of Brothers" about WW2.
Betty, good morning vietnam might of been the one I was looking for.Ugly Betty wrote:We Were Soldiers was also a good Vietnam War film, Mr. A, as was Good Morning Vietnam. And both were true stories.mr-angry wrote:Isn't it funny how once a film comes out about a certain topic like Vietnam,

Even though I thought it was rubbish

Anyway what I'm trying to say is? once a film comes out at that time if it's anygood they'll cash in on a few more of that era.
We were soldiers, was a complete rip off of PLATOON.
And that anti English butt plug "Mel Gibson" should be hung for treason.

If by graphic you mean realistic, Pilot, I agree. It was a 10-part series by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg that followed Easy Company of the 101st Airborne Div. (paratroopers) from basic training til the end of the war. Much of it was told by those who survived it. They had a casualty rate of 150% but largely because they were in all the major battles. If you haven't seen it, I quite recommend it.

Mr. A., I think you're right in that once one film did well, others soon followed. Apocalypse Now was one of the first (and best in my view) and I think that led to the rest.mr-angry wrote:Betty, good morning vietnam might of been the one I was looking for. Even though I thought it was rubbish![]()

I don't agree about We Were Soldiers, though. It was based on a story by the war correspondent Joe Gallowayabout the first major battle of the Vietnam War at la Drang. 90% of it was based on Galloway's book, which he wrote after being present at that battle. While I'm not a Gibson fan, I thought it was a pretty good film and fairly true to Galloway's story.

I saw that Rossinisbird. You characterized it perfectly. The actors were so affected by the flim.
Jimmy, Casualties of War was an amazing film, however upsetting. I can't help but wonder what the films about the Iraq War will tell us one day.
I'd almost forgotten Memphis Belle, about a B-17 crew in WWII who flew out of England. Quite a good insight into the air war with lots of original footage.
