I noticed in the Gazette that plans are afoot to build a communal home for abused women on the site of the old Dean Road School, and that the Nursery opposite has cited objections! They are worried about an influx of objectionable men!
Ironic really, considering the site had a history of objectionable men beating poor girls with canes?
best day of my life when that place burnt down, i will always remember the school bus pulling up and the driver shouting out "anyone for dean road school dont bother" thought it was a joke till i saw it for myself
oops forgot to mention about the guy over the road put in to extend his building and the council knocked him back saying that it did not fit in with the area but now the council wants to build a refuge on his door step, strange
i also remember it was a long walk up the bank from Barnes Road to Dean Road for your school dinner (Barnes Road didn't have a kitchen). The dinners at Dean Road had to be the worst imaginable, worse that Ingham Infirmary food!
Why the hell was it always smoked cod on a friday?
