here's a bit about the competition.
The competition is called jumpers for goalposts and is being run by Radio1 DJ Nemone, who's show is on a sunday between 1-3pm. The whole idea of the competition is for whoever wins to be sponsored by Radio1 for the rest of the season. The sponsorship will include; brand new football strips for the team, football equipment for the pub, match reports on the radio, Nemone as a mascot, amongst other things which would be of great benefit to the club and good publicity for the local football scene.
Over 1000 Sunday League football teams from all over the country entered the competition and from those teams 8 finalists were picked. Over 8 weeks (two of which have passed) a team will be eliminated from the competetion. The way in which elimaination is determined is by votes from the public by text message, the team with the lowest percentage of votes on the sunday is then eliminated. So as I mentioned earlier two weeks have already passed and we (Bamburgh Toledo) are still in the competition, now with only 6 teams remaining. Each week the teams have a task to complete and this task is what determines who the public decide to vote for. The past weeks competitions have been a "Sexy Legs" contest and a "Football Chant" contest. For the sexy legs contest each team had to send a photo in to Radio1 of the lads showing off their legs, this is photo is currently being used to display all of the teams on the Radio1 website. The second of the contests required each team to devise a football chant. Each chant was played back on sundays show and then votes were made. Toledo have made it through both of these rounds and are now the only Northern team remaining in the competition.
We need to accumilate as many votes as possible every sunday in order to make it through each round and to hopefullty win the competition. What we would like people to do to help us achieve this is vote for us each sunday. To vote for us people need to text "Vote 4" to 81199 between 1-3pm on a sunday. We would really appreciate any votes we recieve and hope that the local community can give us that extra edge by supporting us in this manner. It will give South Shields a bit of National publicity and put us on the map if only for the matter of a few months. So if you have a mobile phone and have the time your help would be greatly appreciated. Spread the word around, friends, family, acquaintences, your local boozer ect as every vote will count.
