What a wonderful experience for Mary. My father attended one of the events on the Olympic Games in Melbourne 1956 and always said the atmosphere was wonderful & couldn't be captured on the TV screen. Hope the Commonwealth Games has a great vibe for you both too.

Lack of buses last night ... people waiting for hours.... up to 1 & 2 am ... ended up walking 3 klm to taxis etc.
First night & they can't get it right.
So much for Peter Beattie & the Transport Minister.

Re: Commonewealth Games
The games are boring and silly people who don't know any better pay good money for perhaps boasting rights and be herded around like sheep, then while this happening they are going to share the frightful joy of coming here to Townsville and play basket ball, oh god help us and they can stick it.

Re: Commonewealth Games
Daughter has recently moved to live up on the Gold Coast, and she is being frugal, but still enjoying the atmosphere and hype of the games without going bust.
She is going to see only a couple of events, such as the beach volley ball, and the artistic gymnastics. Just because she can.
The rest can be seen for free on TV, it's really good coverage on TV. The opening ceremony was great, we enjoyed it, had the best seats in the house (our lounge) and was totally free to watch.
It would have been a bit of of a fizzer with the transport problem at the end of the night, but still the atmosphere was good, and people enjoyed other people's company all around.
This is a photo my daughter captures of the Queens Baton being relayed on Monday, in Lae Drive Runaway Bay, she said it was a great community spirit and she loved it.

Re: Commonewealth Games
Glad she is enjoying it, danet.
PS I don't think photobucket works any more unless you pay a subscription, danet, although I saw your photo last night so I don't know what gives.
I use imgur now for photos as it is free.

I suppose one needs a drink when you start talking about vibes.

Re: Commonewealth Games
I'm not sure what you mean.
I mentioned that photobucket requires a subscription now.
Imgur is free, I am not paying any subscription for my account anyway.
The puzzle for me is why danet's photo was showing at all last night & why it is saying 'temporarily disabled' with her photobucket account now.

Re: Commonewealth Games
That's odd, I saw it was posted okay last night too, now it's gone. I will look up Imgur today at some time Sherri, and try to upload the photo again.
In the meantime, there are some amazing wins for Australia with Gold and Silver, and some records too, like the men's cycling last night.

Re: Commonewealth Games
Just ask shairy she'll fill you in with photo bucket and their expensive fees and how free it is with Imgur, for a added bonus she might give a dna story.danet wrote: ↑Thu Apr 05, 2018 11:41 pmThat's odd, I saw it was posted okay last night too, now it's gone.
