Stone Quay East Holborn

Some of my ancestors lived at Stone Quay and worked at the Eltringham Yard. Any images or information on Eltringhams and housing around this quay, would be gratefully received. Date c1895. Stone Quay was situated a the western end of the Mill Dam.
Due to ongoing computer problems I have been off line for about a year. Now that I am 'back too normal' I hope to contribute more to this particular forum.

Many thanks for the links Scotteltringham. No I haven't any pics either. We have traced my Grandfathers sister who married into the Brazil family. He worked at Eltringhams as a foreman or something. They lived at Stone quay,yet all the early maps I have looked at don't shw any dwellings. I will post the details of this part of my family research later. Nice to hear from someone descended from a family who's name is completely forgotten in the town, yet these people laid the foundation stone of the great industrial of South Shelds in the c19 & c20s

I'm a descendant the younger brother of Joseph Eltringham who started the shipyard. They both moved to Shields from Newcastle in the 1840s. Joseph Eltringham started the business in 1846? and my great great grandfather worked there as a boiler maker. I believe the yard specialised even from it's earliest days in marine boilers and small paddle steamers. So I often look out for information about the Eltringham's. The Shields Gazette sometimes feature the Eltringham shipyard in Cookson County. I haven't seen any photos of the yard or dwellings on there - they have had old bill heads, photos of tugs and suchlike. I daresay if you write to Janis Blower she may try and put you in touch with someone who can help.
