1973 Vintage Shields
c1973-ish anyway. Three scans from a few very damaged 35mm slides, much restored.
The first is an early summer evening view from Trow Rocks of the Coal Washer, with the Town Hall peeping over the houses and a plume of smoke from a chimney, probably a local factory. Not many people about is there?
Second pic is the Fairground Pageant Parade. These were a 'medieval' bunch of re-enactment types. That lady in the pink came staight to me and asked me to join. She said I would make a 'great viking' That would be because of my very long hair and even longer beard. No, I didn't join!
Last is of the 'beautiful legs' competition held at the fairground pageant and fete, which was held in competition with the Sports Week Parade. This was much more fun. Lovely legs, knobbly knees, a madman diving into a tub of water from about 50 ft. Things like that. Anyone recognize their knees? (er ladies). BTW this view of the legs is all that could be seen as the young ladies stood behind a screen, in a line which only showed 'thigh to ankle' Quite erotic really I suppose, but it would depend on how nice the legs were. Who won it? Dunno! I was probably 'spaced out' at the finish of all this.

Re: 1973 Vintage Shields
Interesting pics, hartman.
Some of those legs look like they're in need of some serious sunlight!!!
Ah - 1973! Remember it well - like it was just 35 years ago!!!
In 5th year at the Grammar-Tech, dodging Basher Grey and Jock Thompson!

Re: 1973 Vintage Shields
The smoking chimney in the first photo would be about where the Westoe Brewery was.
Not sure if it was still around in 73. Don't recall any other high chimneys in the vicinity.

Re: 1973 Vintage Shields
Ah - the numbers on the legs, baldy. 2 and 10.
Although I actually think they mean 2s and 10p, as in 2 bob each!!!
People still wrote in old money in 1973, you know.

Ahh! I didn't take a lot of notice of the legs photo, I found the others
much more interesting. In todays money that's 14p, not bad at that price.

Re: 1973 Vintage Shields
Is it possible to post these pics again please hartman045? I'm looking for photos of the Viking Battle which was at Trow Rocks in August 1973. Can anyone else help please?
I Think Therefore I GLAM!
Re: 1973 Vintage Shields
Where have they gone? I sometimes come across, as on this thread photos marked up as deleted or moved. What is the reason for this, has the person who posted them taken them down, or is there a limit on the time they are displayed - perhaps to save bandwidth?
Re: 1973 Vintage Shields
They are just a link to the photos on Photobucket, if the person removes them from Photobucket
as appears to be the case here, they cannot be viewed because there is nothing left to view.

Re: 1973 Vintage Shields
Sorry about that, but I closed my Photobucket account due to local internet thieves who just help themselves to whatever image they want and publish them where ever they want. If you are still interested I will republish. I have the odd pic of some of the participants. I was asked to join them at the time as I had hair down to my waist and a huge beard (still do, beard mean)
