The Norfolk and Suffolk pub was in the market place, more commonly know
as the two fu*ks.

Behind the Commando was the Old Nunnery bar. The main entrance was on Ferry Dive, but the back room which had a large barrel in it that touched the ceiling, could be accessed from near the Gents toilets in corner of market square

No it wasn't, it was in the Market place close to where the toilets are now, it was there
long before I was born and was still there when I left Shields, I was in it many a time.
Go back to Number Ten and carry on posting your drivel there on something else you know
nothing about.

and there's a difference between knowledge and wisdom, not that you would know
anyway.

The Norfolk and Suffolk, Market Place.

That photo was taken during or just after WW2 which accounts for the white lines on the mudguards and the the black and white stripes on the lamposts.

That's right Brian, I was trying out my new camera when I took that.

The trolley bus from Tyne Dock - Laygate - Market, used to terminate right
outside of the Norfolk and Suffolk as did quite a few others.

If it was during the war all of the windows would have had tape stuck over them to stop fragments of glass flying all over the place in the event of a blast.

When the photo was taken is not the issue here, it's whether or not the Norfolk and Suffolk
was in the Market Place. Mr know nowt Angry insists that it was in King Street, when every
one else knows it was in the Market Place.

And Mr A knows that as well, he's doing his usual fishing and thread spoiling routine,
just because he hasn't the ability to make sensible posts. King of the Rocks? more
like the King of Drivel.

Mr Smith you are right about the location ( and the nickname ) even without photographic evidence. Remember going in both the Norfolk and Suffolk and then the Nunnery. The Commando came a bit later. Use to be a regular stopping off point in our seventies Friday night pub crawl. Start at the Ship and Royal take in the Golden Lion, City of Durham, Mermaids Tale, Brigantine, Ferry and then the Commando.

We used to meet up with the same people doing the same pubs every time. Drinking was relatively cheap then. Times change. In the sixties I started drinking at the Mechanics and the Duggie like every other under age drinker in Shields

Don't you mean the General Havelock?

The Havelock was in Havelock Street, I lived exactly opposite for several years.

What about the Black and Grey?...I'm not as old as some of you lot, but I'm sure that was one of my first pubs in Queen Street.
