The Licences refer to a 1960 Rover 80. One of only 5900 cars built and known as the poor mans Roll Royce - which was the actual text inside the front cover of the owners hand book.
It was powered by 2286 cc, four cylinder pushrod engine - the only P4 to deviate from the overhead inlet/side exhaust layout. The carburettor was a single Solex and the unit developed 77 bhp. The engine was a version of the 2 litre diesel and 2.25 litre petrol engines introduced for the Land Rover and its use in the 80 rationalised the engine manufacturing lines.
Alongside the contemporary Rover 100, the 80 had Overdrive and disc brakes as standard fittings. The styling included the bumper profile and overriders which were introduced for the Rover 3 Litre (P5).
This one was taken off the road for restoration in 1975, MOT's 1979 by Scrivens Garage Maxwell Street and on its first journey to Scotland the front wheel came off going around the twist and turns of Loch Lomond, where it was recovered by a garage at Tarbet until we could afford to pay for its full recovery.

Do you remember the old Motor Tax Office in that little hut at the side of the Town Hall? What are your memories of taxing your car, or the staff there? Was it better than the current system?

Todays system for paying your car tax is much better now.
Most Post Offices can tax your vehicle for you, or you can
do it online.

I think mine was £185 for twelve months, till next May.
Used to be able to buy a good car for that sort of money

thats why i`ve chose to go for two wheels.....it sure keeps me awake on the roads.....very scary at times [-o<

Do you remember the Manager in the old South Shields Motor Tax Office? He used to serve at the counter sometimes, along with a couple of young female staff.

Yes there was a Michael but he was not there for as long as his predecessor, Sid Collins.
