Another Step Back in Time
c1970. This area has been devestated, and in my opinion ruined. Digital cannot reproduced the lovely muted colors and gentle tonality of film. I spent a lot of time in this area as it was the best place to snap the ships etc.

Yes they did have athletics at Gypsies Green as well as cycling. This was when we had a council that cared. I think snapped this around 1968/69 with a 450mm lens.

The iconic Franki's Cafe sign. As this was also taken with the big telephoto lens, I think I may have been attracted by the short skirt rather than thee sign. c1968/69.

It's A Knockout in the South Marine Park. At ts height this programme was watched by millions and this one filmed in Shields was one of the most boring. I couldn't get near to get some decent snaps and remember it was so boring I left. 1970 I think.

I found this at Trow Rocks. Pure sandstone and beatiflly carved. I am certain it is from the apex/roofline of Betty(?) Heron's cottage which was on the site where I found this. c1980 If you check one of the many postcards around you will see what I mean.

c1970 A Burndept pic. Although then called Cromton Parkinson Vidor Batteries.'Old Les' (on the left) as he was known a 'Cockney' fitter tells the maintenance joiner (can't remember his name) one of his 'tall stories'' during the morning 10 minute tea break.

Two snaps of the Alum House Ham, then the TDE offices. Probably snapped around 1970/3 ish.

Re: Another Step Back in Time
I actually worked at TDE market dock 1988- 1990 on and off, I also worked on that ship on the first photo. As for frankies cafe on the beach, who could ever forget the hot summer of 1976, and the big innertube that we had on the beach? Brilliant photos. =D> =D> =D>

Re: Another Step Back in Time
Glad they brought back happy memories. Yes that is when the beach was used for fun, unlike now. It is more like a statement of intent, and devoid of life (sealife included) or character
Re: Another Step Back in Time
love looking at old pics like that, I was actually at that its a knockout in the park with my parents and I hated every minute of it. Excellent photos
