Sadly the pork shop through lack of custom pined away and became a porcupine.

It is a Pork Butcher's shop mainly specialising in things like sausages, cooked meats a bit like an early type of delicatessen. They were started on Tyneside mainly by Geman immigrants over a hundred years ago.

Yes i remember Charlie's shop, my mam worked there about forty years ago and my nanna used to take me in for a saveloy whenever we were on the fad. Sadly the row of shops was pulled down along with the Santa Maria offy and 2nd Time Around record shop among others. I think he used to have a farm over towards Boldon and was a lovely bloke according to my mam.

He is in fact my Cousin, and my Aunty Nora Hogg used to work there.Being in the Army I used to visit when on leave, and always sampled the excellent pies etc.He also used to own many greyhounds which were raced at local tracks, including South Shields and Brough Park.He did move to a farm after the shop closed, but like a lot of family's,circumstances change and you can soon lose touch, and I don't know if he is still around or not, having not seen him for many years.
