Savilles, they used to be in King Street in the 60s. Pete Edmunsen also had a record shop but I think that was opposite St Hidas church yard where Chris B Watsons was.
Re: Name slips me
Spot on Pete, Im sure the shop in Keppel Street used to be Burstros before Savilles took it over.
cheers.

Wasn't the Penthouse club round there somewhere?
Re: Name slips me
Yes up stairs on the corner of Keppel Street and Fowler Street I might not have been big in buying records but I frequented clubs in the 1960s
I voted leave
Re: Name slips me
Ever get to Franchis in Jarrow Pilot?
Re: Name slips me
Thanks. Now I remember they had the best selection of LPs and a few bootlegs as well got some great ones.
Re: Name slips me
Jarrow was a bit far out for me, the furthest we got to was the 21 club at Tyne Dock, but my number one choice was the old Cellar club in Beach Road. The Latino was for more sophisticated nights and the Ranchouse if you were slumming it The Beach club for a bit of illegal gambling, La Strada for grab a granny Did I miss any, probably

Re: Name slips me
Come to think of it the Latino wasn't that sophisticated, do you remember the raised stage and the dances where they stopped the music and said things like....anyone with a tie on take it off.......anyone with a jacket take it off.....if you refused you had to leave the stage till there was only one person left.....I chickened out at Y fronts and socks never won once.

Re: Name slips me
You're right Pilot the cellar club was great. I'm sure that's where the whole Bailey organisation sprang from.
Re: Name slips me
Pete Edmonds(on) 1st record shop was in Ocean Road between Dickson Pork Shop andMr Peasbodys (now Nobles) he later took over what was Savilles turning it into Shields 1st Wine Bar Bensons with his mate Byron.
Re: Name slips me
I remeber doing that it was normally on a Thursday night, also had wheelbarrow racing on stage, prize was for the winners of the race tickets for coach to Blackpool and b&b, ps worked in the Shoreline and the Rokoko in Sunderland and occasinally the club in Grangemouth Edinburgh.

Re: Name slips me
.
Thursday night at the Tavern was called CRAZY NIGHT..
Games for prizes and stuff on stage....
It was great..I think that was about the first time I started going to nightclubs.
Really good nights with the lasses from Hintons ( corner of Fowler St/Kepple St )
Memories......ahhh
