The lease ran out on it and the council wanted too much to renew it
so no-one bought it and it was demolished...... I think.
I was a DJ there for 3 years when Paul Hedley had it, I was there
from 1990 to 1993, good times :D

John, I reckon you're in the best position to judge on this ........

would we be right to think of that club as being for the 'more, mature' clientele ?

Depends what you mean by mature. I went there when I was 25/26. Does that count?
It is now demolished with only a piece of 'art' in the form of a table, bottle and glasses to show where it was. It is incredible how small the site id. The place must have been the Tardis.

It was also very popular with nurses, I think they used to get free admission on certain nights.

When I was there, from 1989 to about 1992 I think, I would
say that thursdays and saturdays were more for the older
crowd and couples, friday night was for the younger ones.
Me personally, I used to play a lot of party music mixed with
quite a bit of 60's and 70's on a thursday and saturday
whereas friday was more chart music and dance but never
any rave music. After I left (to work downstairs in the Ship
& Royal), I believe it was called Busters and Alan Crooks
became the DJ and I did hear it started dying which to me,
is a damn shame :(

I can't believe people used to go there in the 80s and 90s. My clubbing days in SS were in the 70s and none of us would have gone there as it was for the oldies. We did wonder sometimes tho about going there and other places that had 'grab a granny' nights on the logic that older women were almost certain to be a sure thing. But we never did, probably because we had school the next day (grab granny nights were usu a Thursday) and funds were tight and restricted to Fri and Sat.

But a 'granny' in those times was aged tops 40, and there were no real grannies of that age then. Unlike now.
