WORLD OF SPORT

Post by martymont »

Anyone remember saturday afternoon wrestling thought it was great as a kid Masambula whose head seemed as hard as concrete the first true wrestler who fought american style Marc Rollerball Rocco (fought dirty) then got hooked on WCW, ECW, CZW ir had razzmatazz, good storylines, how the wrestlers were going to get put over still do it now with TNA best fight CZW Necro Butcher in amatch 5000 neon light strips, happy days barb wire matches good groups NWO,LWO,DX, LAX, MCG. good rock music now its average World of sport had Big Daddy, Giant Haystack, the Mighty Quinn, The Royals Johnny Saint etc.it still is just now a good afternoons memory

There were a couple of wrestlers from South Shields way back in the sixties.
One was called Bruce Allison, who never made the big time. The other is
Henry Caulker who wrestles under the name of Lindy Caulder, he moved
to Canada; many many years ago. He is still grappling and entering body
building contests, at the age of more than 70 years.

I also knew Ted Gutteridge from Whitley Bay, he wrestled under the name
of "Young Hackendsmidt", p*ssed myself laughing when someone asked him
for his autograph and he didn't know how to spell the name (I don't know how
to spell it either come to that). He emigrated to Australia where he was unfortunately
killed in a car accident a couple of years after arriving there.

I also knew, Earl Maynard, Spencer Churchill and John Lees.

Billed as "Leon Arras The Man From Paris"
He was only 63 years old when he died in 1997.

That's correct, he wrote a song about her, called "For Miss Caulker". at least
I think that's what it was called.

Henry now lives in British Columbia, Canada.

I used to live right opposite Bolingbroke Hall in Berkely street. Twice a week we played 5 a side in there
got a good sweat on (and a thirst) and would then go round to The Voyager for a pint or three. :P
What a great keep fit (keep fat) idea that was...
