i always expect to lose... that way u cant get really disappointed when you do.
another thought that often goes through my head is... 'well its £4 less money if i lose, i can afford that, im £16 up if i win, thats brilliant!'
its just a shame i dont win that often, though iv made a killing on electronic roulette at the bookies

here is a bit info for you that should put you off gambling, have you ever seen those ads that pop up when your surfing the net for casinos ? well if i put one on this site (i wont because i do not agree with them) and you click on it then sign up, the first time you place a bet i get £50 and also upto a 3rd of your losses, so this tell you how much of a chance you have of been a winner

A very public place perhaps for anyone to admit to having a gambling problem.I HAVE,I am intelligent man who lost £20,000 within four months, who has not the will power to stop. After smoking for 35 years I stopped in May this year with no help,no patches etc, using will power.but cannot stop the other problem.
It is not greed for me,but a challenge to beat the bookie, and I am easily bored so the bookie provides a haven in the afternoons.Slots etc are even worse, because they are all set up to only give back a percentage of what goes in,and really are a mugs game.
The new laws are going to increase the membership of Gamblers Anonymous, increase the breakup of marriages, ruin a lot more peoples lives, and some will even end their lives.

Stay away from all forms of it if you can,and I hope that if my admission here can stop one person from getting the habit, then putting this on public view will be worth it.
Growing old is unavoidable, but growing up is optional---Malc

malrap, there are groups you can join that will try to help support you if you want to ease up on the gambling. I know you put some store by 'doing it yourself', with no help. But really, it is like everything else. It takes enormous will power to achieve anything totally alone. Much better to be in a group, with some support.

I can see the arguments for these proposed casinos, (people are free agents and if they want to squander their money it's up to them, etc.) but also the arguments against, Kids crying because daddy's gambled away the money they need for food, etc.

I'm not keen on these new casinos; casinos attract crime like s**t attracts flies.

Let's just say I wouldn't like to live next door to one.

Let me tell the story of little owld George. It's a true story, and nearly everyone in Aycliffe knows it.
George was ripped off by a woman and ended up so poor he used to pick pennies up off the street (he used to make a mint!), and gamble them all. One day he won big, it must have been big 'cause he had enough to buy a house for himself and his two daughters. He has since become a wealthy man, but to this day he still picks up pennies, gambles them, and gives all the proceeds to his two graddaughters.
He told me one time in the Thames Centre when I was talking to him that if it weren't for gambling he'd still be on the streets. He also said if you know how to gamble you can make a fortune, but never gamble more than pennies.

If people have control of it, it can have a very posotive side.

Gambling is big here in some places, such as Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and along the Mississipi Gulf Coast. Here in Florida, we have casinos too. They are owned and run by Native Americans, as are many other casinos throughout the USA. One of the items that will be voted on in Florida in November, is whether to allow more casinos and to tax them, whereby the tax revenue would be used solely to supplement the state education budget. On the one hand, its not a bad idea. People will gamble if they want to, so why not let our kids benefit from that?
Actually, I have been to Vegas and to the Mississippi Gulf Coast several times. Don't do it often, but about once a year we will book a short trip. I'm not really a gambler mind you, but to be honest, here it can be a really cheap way to have a holiday. You book the casino hotels and pay next to nothing for the flight and first class accomodation. They assume they will make their money off you when you gamble. And of course, some people gamble big-time, so I guess there calculation works out for them. We, however, set aside a really small amount (for example $20 each) to "play" with each day. Now, while you are playing /gambling all of your drinks are free - no matter what you want to drink, so basically we end up spending less in the long run by gambling that than we would to have a good night out! And I have been lucky several times. Never won a great deal mind you, but I actually never really lost anything either. And in these resorts, if you gamble even just small amounts during your stay, you often get some great freebies - like free meals, free nights stay and other gifts.
Although gambling can be fun, the sad part is, that it can, of course, also become addictive! How many families have been ruined by someone's gambling habits? As such, gambling can be a pretty dangerous passtime if you don't watch out!
It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

I dont fancy lots of casinos around the country. theyre a magnet for people like the Mafia. We can do without them.
