Re: NEWCASTLE IN THE 50s
Thats great Anna...luv stuff like that.
Never knew about the fairs starting up with ex US Army equipment left over from war.
I wonder if a similar type film is available for South Shields....that's what I really would like to see.
I think I said this before, but with cameras nowadays, someone could do a street by street film of Shields, famous shops, well known people, pubs etc.
Wouldn't that be great for our kids in 30-50 years time ?

Re: NEWCASTLE IN THE 50s
I just remembered after watching this video clip again. that my oldest brother Hector would call the roundabouts La la gee gee roundy roundy. And he wouldn't walk across the old wooden road bridges in case he fell through one of the cracks in them.

That was good Anna, I see the traffic hasn't improved much.
I presume the fair was on the Town Moor.

Re: NEWCASTLE IN THE 50s
I can remember my sister Marjorie getting into a lot of trouble for losing a half crown 2/6d when she was sent to the butchers with a meat coupon to buy the meat. How much meat can you buy today for 25c. ? At that much a kind butcher would wave his butchers dirty apron under your nose. If you were lucky.
