Hi Sigsy,
I can remember it cos it used to be part of my Friday night King Street pub crawl, see how many pubs could be visited before getting totally blobbed. Did it have a floor that slanted upwards towards the back? Or was it the beer?

The Bridge was the favourite for us yung'uns back around '64/65 because the back room didn't have a bar counter so we could go and sit in there and send the 'big lad' through to the front bar to get the pints of Starbright for One and a penny.

thanks for posting those Pilot, jogged the memory a bit to i had forgot about Dunns in the backround "gentlemans outfitters" i think they were called. Can you remember the name of the pub in Fowler street that was demolished to make way for the duel carriageway in Keppel street in the mid to late sixties

I doubt if anyone on here rcan remember a pub called "The Broadlands" I had forgotten it's existence until it's name popped up in something I was researching.
Let's see who comes up with the answer. "Where was it"?

Sigsy, unless it is a photo belonging to you it is probably already on this website. Click on the link below and check this sites old photos. There are quite a few old photos of King street there.

Yes that's my photo Sigsy, I lived in Havelock Street from about 1944 to 1954.
You have just answered a question which I have been asking on here for years. The name of the pub on the corner of Havelock Street and Campbell Street, opposite corner to the Salvation Army Citadel.
"The Northumberland" I always thought it was the Duke of something or other. Thanks for that information.

There was a time I knew the names of all of the pubs in Laygate Lane from Laygate to Commercial Road and those in Havelock Street, they added up to thirteen pubs in total. A lot of pubs for such a small area.

There was a bloke who lived just around the corner from you in Havelock Street, who sold papers in the Market place and King street for years. He lived in the house next to the shop on the corner, facing the Sally Army.

No "The Havelock" was on the corner of Havelock Street and Palmerston Street, I lived exactly opposite the main entrance to "The Havelock"
"The Havelock" and the pub whose name I can't remember were on the same side of Havelock Street, as I said the pub which I can't remember was on the same side as the Sally Army but on the opposite corner of Campbell Street.
