Remember the Northern 62 Esh Winning bus. When I did my pit training in 1961 at Dame Margaret's Hall Washington used to get it every morning from Mile End Road for 13 weeks. It used to take over an hour to get to Washington and can remember when it left Boldon it criss crossed the railway lines several times before it got to Old Washington.drwho wrote: Used to travel on the no62 northern bus from Boldon Colliery to South Shields at 6.30am 6 days a week.

I used to use the 62 bus from Mile End Road to get to Chester le Street, that was in the early sixties. It would take an hour to get to Chester le Street having travelled through just about every village in the county. It was very unreliable at nights; often failing to turn up, without any prior notice from the bus company (Northern).
