NEW BEER LAUNCHED

NEW BEER LAUNCHED

A popular South Tyneside brewery has launched a new beer to celebrate the world premiere of a play by South Shields playwrights Ed Waugh and Trevor Wood, writers of the international hit comedies Dirty Dusting and Waiting For Gateaux.

The Jarrow Brewery, which specialises in real ales, has revealed Maggie’s End, a 5 per cent bitter, to mark the duo’s latest full comedy play that has as its starting point the death of Margaret Thatcher.

Jarrow Brewery boss Jess McConnell, whose company owns the award-winning pubs, The Robin Hood in Jarrow, The Albion Inn at Bill Quay and The Maltings in South Shields, explained: “Ed and Trevor are big real ale fans and often pop into The Maltings.

“As two of the region’s best-known and most popular playwrights, I felt their work should be celebrated, especially as this is their first full-play premiere for two years. This is probably the first time ever in the UK that the premiere of a play has been celebrated with a new beer specifically brewed and named after it."

He added: "It will be up to the public to decide whether Maggie's End becomes a regular part of the Jarrow Brewery portfolio."

Maggie’s End, the play, opens at the 500-seat Gala theatre in Durham on Tuesday, October 16, and runs until Saturday, October 20. All 3,000 tickets are expected to be snapped up long before the first curtain up.

Ed Waugh, who worked for Vaux Breweries in Sunderland for five years, said: “We’re absolutely delighted. Jess and his team produce great beers. The Jarrow Brewery has a brilliant reputation throughout the north east.”

Maggie’s End ale is on sale at Jarrow Brewery outlets and 50 pubs throughout the northern region in the run up to the play at the Gala Theatre, Durham, in October.

Some of the pubs stocking the beer are:

Sunderland: Fitzgerald's,The Smugglers
Cramlington: The Plough
North Shields: Oddfellows
Whitley Bay: The Rockcliffe and Briar Dene
Darlington: Quaker Coffee House
Alnwick: John Bull
Newcastle: Newcastle Arms, Bodega, The Bridge, Cumberland Arms, Free Trade, The Tyne.

They didn't have any at the Maltings last night. It happens too regularly that they launch a beer and don't stock enough to meet demand.

When she finally croaks, you might even have enough room in your fridge for some food

Thatcher ....Lovely woman did anyone notice at the Falklands ceremony

she was the only one that curtseyed to the Queen.

That Sherry Blair just shook her hand.

Mind you I sure Tony tried a little curtsey till he caught himself.

Couldn't get onto the Newcastle Supporters club forum to post this one.

But I see as of today Scottish and Newcastle have been kicked out of Newcastle Utd and now Carling are provided the drinks for Shearers bar etc.
