Thirdly , never underestimate the British forces for when they have
there backs against the wall they are a force to be reckoned with.
They might have been, about a hundred years ago.

i also said i can assure you 200% i know what
i am talking about and it was not 100 years ago.
Unless one has been in a situation like that one can
only pressume what its like.
We ex soldiers had to play by the rules and as Jarrock
said not always in our favour but we grinned and beared it.
Thats what makes the British forces the best in the world

After serving 24 years in the Armed Forces, let me assure you, that for all the re-organisation that the our dwindling Forces have been subject to from both Conservative and Labour Governments,we are still the best in the world. The main reason for that is because of the discipline that they show 24/7,and they had NO option but to do what they did.HOWEVER,there will have been very serious discussions as to why there was no 'fly over'cover taking place, which could have prevented this,by reporting closing vessels to both the boarding party and the HMS Cornwall...would suggest this will not happen again.
But to put any blame on the 15 is utter nonsense.

Northern and Malrap I respect your views and as I said in my first post on
this subject I think British Armed Forces are doing a great job.
But I can't comprehend why they gave in so early.
Why they walked down the gangplank with their hands in the air.
Why didn't they hide the female soldier or even some of them I mean not all fifteen had to surrender.
And whats this crap about following orders. They've either GOT guns to protect themselves or they haven't.
They were armed for Gods sake didn't they know how to use them.
Because they gave in so easily they've made all service personnel vulnerable around the world. British are now known as easy targets.
I've been talking to a lot of ex squaddies and they feel the same as I do.
"They gave in too easy."
And its not being GUNG HO To defend yourself and your country.
What I say might offend some people but you've shown that we can have a frank exchange of views without resorting to personal abuse and nasty comments.

I always value Pilots wit and input
I see Des Browne is in the front line about this and so he should be.
In my opinion he made the wrong decision allowing these guys to sell their stories, especially as this all coincided with the return to Britain of the four young officers who had been killed in bomb blast.
I think he should resign for his sheer poor judgement

yeah that's it, but he is digging his heels in by all accounts and will not resign no matter what. It's gonna be interesting to see what his statement says and how long this drags on for.
