Daft question
Can someone please settle an argument for me...
Last night, at the end of the night when you've had one too many and the conversations crap, we got talking about shop's that aren't longer with us.
One that was mentioned was Ty McGurks at the Nook.
Now, when did this close, and what shop is it now?
Any ideas...?

Sorry got no idea mate, maybe if you gave me a clue, like what part of the Uk is it.
Nevertheless I think on reflection that it could be somewhere between Land's End and John O' Groats.

Ty McGurk had two shops at the Nook, I think. There was the first one on the corner of Borough Road - used to be A and B Supplies or Albert Burr's barbers- and then it shut and went to the smaller one further along Sunderland Road, in the vicinity of where the undertakers and kitchen shop is now. Going by my memories of taking teenaged daughters there, I think it's been closed about 6 or 7 years.
There was only the Sunderland shop left until a few years ago, opposite Crowtree Leisure, it's now New Look.
Any contradiction will be accepted good-heartedly!

The funeral directors now stands where the TSB bank used to be. Then, when the other branch opened on Prince Edward Road, this one was turned into a sort of drop-in advice centre for the TSB. It went from having an olde worlde atmosphere and a beautiful polished wood counter to vertical blinds and bright blue swivel chairs behind a few cheap looking desks!
Anyway, Ty McGurks was where the kitchen shop is now. And Smythes the bakers turned into Kayes wool shop. Thompsons TVs has stood there for as long as I can remember.
