Before the bid went before the Olympic Committee, magazine Private Eye claimed that the proposed cost was well under the true figure, based upon KPMG's own figures. Eye also predicted that after the bid was accepted the true cost would come out and that there would be some Audit Commission hand-wringing over the cost, but political expediency would ensure the project went ahead.
It's funny how none of the normal 'news' papers covered this. Instead they all blindly backed the bid. Now they're after blood. Funny old thing, the press.
i.e nearly 4 times the figure quoted in the bid.
wow....I could have thought 'twice' the amount would have been a huge budget blowout....but "4 times"....??? I wonder who the silly treasurers are then
One thing's certain.....with 4 times more being spent on it, I would imagine it will be really spectacular.
