Delilah, I KNOW what you have been pointing out about the law, all anybody wanted was to hear you say that he SHOULDN'T get the money. We all know what the law is at times - arse!
Gazza, I wasn't being hypocrytical. If you read my post carefully, what I'm saying is that if someone is innocent and have been locked up wrongfully then they deserve compensation, regardless of what country they're locked up in. If you're a criminal, especially of the kind we've been talking about, then the law is wrong to give them compensation and rub salt in the wounds of the victim. 8 years was never enough for this scumbag in the first place. But, as you say.....the law is the law etc, etc

if the first post had been read properly, it points to 1 important
fact, touched on by sherri.........this criminal, should have been deported before this farce ever became the mess it now is.......having said that,
we are i beleive obliged under human rights legislation forbidding
deportation where human rights abuse is prevailant......once again, it
can be argued that he deserves to be sent to such a country........giving
an opinion can be a trikky task here, when degenerates attack you
personally for doing so..........as the cat has said, very little sleep
will be lossed over perceptions on forums like this.........by myself...

Oi, Para, what do you mean 'another' stupid comment by Jerry? It was the first time I'd opened my mouth on this thread! If you just meant 'another stupid comment, this time by Jerry' OK.
Anyway you've misunderstood me. I wasn't on about this b*****d and his compo. I was replying to Cisco's alarming post about equal (legal) rights for all being just a socialist belief, rather than one common to all major parties.
I meant to say that in a country where the law is paramount, you've got hope even if wrongfully arrested. Where the law is subservient to a dictator or sole party you haven't.

The premise that deportation to a country where human rights abuse is prevalent has some merit.
However, the minute that a potential deportee commits a human rights violation in the country where he seeks sanctuary should be the minute this so called right is rescinded.
Please tell me that no posters on here think that child rape is not a human rights violation.
What people mistakenly call rights are in fact only laws that have been passed with no doubt the best intentions.
If these laws turn out to be less than perfect, surely we should think about making them better.

Whilst in no way condoning what criminals do it is sometimes impossible to deport them for practical reasons.
For example Somalia does't have any air transport links so we couldn't physically deport someone there. Sometimes the individuals don't have papers and won't state their country of origin so we wouldn't know where to send them. generally other countries are unwilling to accept deportees unless there is concrete proof that they are citizens.
It is very easy to come up with an emotive answer but the practical difficulties prevent the easy solutions people suggest.

Delilahcat says: I would hope that if it is possible his victim could sue him for damages now that he has money.
Yes; and I think, oh, say, £50,000 damages to pay the victim would be just about right...
Well, why don't we start doing that? If this psycopath can have damages, why can't his victims have damages too? - all payable by him.

Jerry, yes, I meant on this thread. You made a comment on another about British Bobbies. You're last paragraph makes more sense - sorry if I misunderstood youJerry wrote:Oi, Para, what do you mean 'another' stupid comment by Jerry? What beachbum said made perfect sense. Delilacat is right too. Often refugees deliberately get rid of any identifying papers so they cannot be deported.
What is the case with this particular crim of yours? Do they know where he came from originally?
It seems to me society needs a balance. We need laws that protect us from unjust imprisonment, but at the same time, if there is a genuine reason for authorities to be fearful of releasing someone, then that needs to be taken into account too. Think Charles Manson for example. His sentence is up, but they haven't released him yet.
Some illegal refugees have been detained in prison camps here in Aust for years and have done nothing else wrong except be illegal, as far as anyone knows. They won't get compo. They should have been put on the first plane out IMO, but then, as delilacat says-sometimes authorities have no idea where they come from.
Opinions have been divided here about the whole issue but I will say this much-once the govt became stricter, the word went out and the number of illegal boat people etc practically came to a halt overnight.

There are quite a few unhabited islands off the west coast of Scotland, would it not make sense to dump the likes of this animail on one of these. They could be issued with a tent, enough food to keep them alive, and no buildings for them to wreck. Do this to all illegals and we might find they are not so keen to come and abuse the hospitality that they have been offered in the past by this country.
