Im looking for anyone related to my great grandmothers family.

My Great Grandmother was born Jane Wyatt HARKUS in 1903 in South Shields. She was the 2nd youngest of 9 surviving children of William and Elizabeth HARKUS (nee STEPHENSON). She died in 1942 at the age of 39.

Her siblings were:
Elizabeth HARKUS
Anthony HARKUS
John Stephenson HARKUS
William HARKUS
Lucy Stephenson HARKUS
Robert Brown HARKUS
Christiana HARKUS
Georgina HARKUS

We lost contact with this branch of the family after she died and as such we have almost no information about or photos of Jane and her siblings. If anyone is related to these people or can give me any information on them, please get in touch either here on the board or via email.

cheers
Amanda. :D

Strange, although not on your list, I have a record of a Thomas Stephenson Harkus who died in 2002, with the Stephenson middle name it must fit in somewhere I think.

There was a Thomas Stephenson Harkus in this family but I didnt include him in the list as he died in 1910 aged 13. Its possible that the one you found is the child of one of the other siblings.

cheers
Amanda.

This particular Anthony Harkus married Elizabeth Peel in 1907. The Anthony Harkus that married Amelia was a cousin. One of the problems is that the Harkus family liked to name their children the same!! :?

cheers
Amanda.

My mother was Christian Erby Harkus born in South Shields in 1914. Her parents were Anthony Harkus and Amelia Ramshaw Pierce and they married in about 1909. My mother had two older sisters, Amelia and Jane and a younger brother Tom Anthony. Amelia died when she was very young. Jane died during WW2 and Tom was drowned off Newfoundland during the War.There was an older half brother George Pierce born in1906/7 who died in the 1930's My great grandparents on the Harkus side were Jane Wyatt Stephenson and George Harkus. They married in 1885.Their family were Anthony born1887, Jane Wyatt born 1891,John Stephenson born1894, Thomas Prowse born1896,George born1898, Christian born1899 and William born 1900. There may have been a twin Lucy Stephenson born in 1894.
I too have lost touch with my Harkus relatives as my mother moved to the north of Scotland in 1939, but I was born in South Shields.
