aileen mcgregor

Post by nandi »

I'm looking for the family of William McGregor, torpedoed on the MV Pizarro in 1941. His children were Aileen and Robert (I believe twins) and David. The Scottish branch of his family lost touch and I would dearly like to meet them. Any leads?

Did they have any connection to the name Kerr?

Have no other information on the family other than they may have lived in "ermyn street" in 1941. I believe their mother may have been Jane. Am in the process of finding a marine death register and his wife's surname name may be in that.

I asked because I scan a lot of local history cuttings from the Shields Gazette and I did a search for McGREGOR and so far only one hit, ANNE McGREGOR KERR, who died in 2004, its quite common for people to put the mothers maiden name as a middle name for their baby. I will keep looking and see if I can find anything else.

Have you any suggestions as to my next step.
Should I post another message for Robert McGregor and Aileen Swann do you think?
They will be quite elderly - like me - and might not be silver surfers - but extended family might be looking.
I think I may come down from Scotland to look at the BMD's. Is the records office easy to find?

What is the most widely read local newspaper? That might be worth a try too.

So many questions!!!!!!

Local paper is http://www.shieldsgazette.com/

I'll provide you with an online link to the registry office shortly, the site is down at the moment.

If you were to come down to South Shields, the registry office is just around the corner to the
Town Hall.

If you decide to come down, let us know and a few members will have a get together, we're
very sociable here. We could also discuss my Scottish family link, The Johnstone Clan. :D

Have found possible birth of David McGregor in 1941 and a possible marriage in 1966 to Bernadette Pearce.
I also think that Robert may have married Carole Wilson in 1964.

My brother and I will take a trip down to have a look at the registers probably in July and look forward to meeting.

I am getting a lot of information about William - the ships he sailed on and what happened in the convoy - I'm sure his family would be interested - let's hope that they hear we're looking.

Just to say thanks to Sanddancers for a successful outcome. Have found David McGregor in Chester-le-street and Aileen near Carlisle and "Bobby" apparently still in South Shields. This is due to the information supplied so kindly by Baldy and Pilot. I am very grateful. A happy outcome!.

Keep up the good work.

If David McGregor is living in Great Lumley, Chester le Street, it is only
five minutes from where I live (I also live in Chester le Street).

Glad you had a sucessful search.

That's the very one!

We're going to meet up sometime in September. It's very exciting for everyone. Thanks again for all your help.

The Mcgregors had their gathering in September after much help from the sanddancers and janis blower at the Gazette.

A very happy outcome. So, after years of looking, a family have been re-united. Even if we are all in our 70's it is never too late to tie up loose ends.

Thanks everyone.

This is a great result and one of the best aspects of the internet, I was reunited with two long lost cousins after 50 years through sandancers last year too.
