Royal Merchant Navy School/Bearwood College

Post by sylvialambert »

The Old Royals Association (Royal Merchant Navy School - now known as Bearwood College) is always looking for ex-pupils of the school or news of them. Many children from the North East have been educated at Bearwood over the years and as alumni correspondent I am often asked about particular ex pupils from Tyneside. Annual reunions are held at the school and local reunions on Tyneside and Merseyside have also proved very popular. The Association has its own website, http://www.oldroyals.org.uk and there is also another site http://www.ganderton.net which has many pictures of the school.

The school was founded in 1827 to educate the children of men who lost their lives in the Merchant Navy and the Foundation still exists today, even though there is precious little of the Mercantile Marine left in the UK.
So if anyone reading this is, or knows of, an Old Royal (even one who has now passed on) I would love to hear from you.
