Harton Cemetery - Anybody live nearby?

Post by george »

Is there anyone who would be willing to visit the above cemetery and search for and take a picture of a couple of graves for me?

John (d 1917), Annie (d 1920) and Violet Pattison (d 1901) - all buried together in Section R, plot no 7693

Michael O'Hanlon - buried in Section M, plot no was hard to read in the register 10503 or 10522,

Thanks ever so much

I have a full list of names and numbers for al graves in Harton Cemetery which
have "legible gravestones"

There is a grave shared by Annie Pattison and John Pattison
in Section R Row 2 Number 065 but no mention in my list of Violet Elizabeth M Pattison.

Michael O'Hanlon is not mentioned in Section M at all so I assume that
he either has no gravestone of that it is impossible to read it.

Are you sure that you've got the date of the death of Annie Pattison right?
The only death of an Annie Pattison registered in South Shields was in 1906.

I went through the Harton Cemetery Burial Records at Tyne and Wear Archives, it definitely stated that Violet Elizabeth Mary Pattison was with her parents John Arthur Pattison and Annie Pattison in Section R 7693, Annie was buried 7 July 1920, her body was brought over from Ireland so I don't know her actual death date.

Michael Joseph O'Hanlon was recorded as Section M 10503 or 10522? I had hoped he may have had a headstone, as page on the microfilm that would have shown who else was buried with him, had been missed when it was transferred to microfilm

If Annie's body was brought over from Ireland that would explain why her death
is not registered in South Shields.

I have checked again in section M numbers between 10002 - 10932 and he
is not listed as currently having a gravestone. He may have had one originally
but some of those old limestone gravestones suffered badly from erosion and
weathering, a lot were taken down for safety reasons.
I have in fact been unable to find anyone listed with the name O'Hanlon in
the listings which I have, and they have several thousands of names there.
I have relatives myself buried there, some of them are in unmarked graves.
I've promised myself that I'll go there in the not too distant future and have
a look around myself. I will take some photos, so unless someone nearer does
it first I will photograph what I can find. I have a plan of the layout of the
sections in the Cemetery.

Pop in while you are up here marra, I may bump into you as I intend to
have a look around there when I return from Italy. I've got to check up
on the details of a few relatives who are buried there.
