"The Tyne By Night"

Not an entry as I seem to have lost the main file and only have this small one.

Now how am I going to take a photo at night when I can't see in the dark? May I take a photo in the day and say I imagined this photo in the dim dark recesses of my mind?

You have to have a tripod for them nightshots, as the lens stays open longer. And then, a remote switch helps keep the camera stable, rather than manually pressing the shutter button and risk any camera movement. So if you want to do them night shots of night stars, moon etc. a tripod is the first and foremost over just hand holding the camera with blur motion bound to happen. :D

You're not the only one, I've yet to take any sort of reasonable photo of the moon.
As has been said; for very low light conditions you need a tripod or some other means
of keeping your camera rock steady. You can pick up a lightweight tripod at Tescos,
Aldi, Netto and quite a few other places for less than a tenner.

The photo I posted at the top of this thread was "hand held" half a second shutter speed,
f3.5 and ISO of 800.

Try setting the ISO on your camera to a high setting it helps.

I finally located some moon photos I did in the past, and can't remember if I used a tripod or not, but will share them here anyway, my few first night time moon pics, not that I am a great fan of taking photos of the moon, but at least I tried.

BTW....love that photo of yours BM :D

Now that's a good steady hand, and something I don't fare too well with lights reflecting on the water type shots, although the more I practice, I will get right eventually with all the right settins......excellent photo Mr. Smith.

I found this one in my files of pics, I took this with my first point and shoot digi cam, a kodak 4mp. I was amazed how clear it was for a 4 mp camera!

Stormy Night In Italy

Not an entry as I only have the small file. :(

Middle of the night storm, with lightning.

This was hand held 5 seconds exposure, f3.5 and ISO at 1600.

a challenging topic curly and good for the shutter bugs to challenge themselves to try and think outside of the square...

remember a while back when i was saying that i didn’t have a polarised lens so i was using a pair of my sunglasses???

Night shots are similar in using what you have got instead of wishing of things you want or should have...

Here is a shot of the Sydney Darling Harbour taken from the roof of one of the hotels... all i used was my old cybershot 4.1 MP camera... i just sat the camera on the ledge and carefully pressed the button as not to shake it too much...

Shots like these need to be in Scenic mode as not to activate the flash and to give you a HUGE focal point...

Image

so don't "bow" out... don't get down in the dumps... challenge yourselves to become better photographers..

oh... and if you look down the bottom left corner you'll see the ledge that i was leaning on for stability... maybe i should have been closer to the edge etc ... i took a few shots in a similar position.. always take a number of shots..

It looks like an atomic bomb has just been detonated. And that is a complement. I would be proud to say look at my photo if it was mine.

I just thought of another tip for the Novices that don’t have a million dollar cameras with tripods and remote switches etc...

Now remember... you can sit your camera on any surface... use pebbles etc to get the angle right etc.. still with me?

then... so that you don’t get camera shake when pushing the button to take the picture... do what i sometimes do and use the camera’s TIMER ... even the basic camera’s have timers of around 10 seconds so that you can run and get into pictures...

Here’s one that i took using the timer so that i didn’t shake the camera...

down town Warrnambool on a misty night... hence the star bursts on the lights :D

good luck!!!
