Beachbum, I like the lightning pic too, the ghost strike near the camera makes me wonder about perhaps a near miss.

I think that was from one of the solar lights on the deck.

The actual strike seemed to land across the the lake on an island called "Put In Bay" in Ohio.

They are having the annual "Christmas In July" bash over there.

Hope nobody was hurt.

Umm....Curly........perhaps you should let the 'night shots' go for the entire length month of August also...because, of a once in a lifetime opportunity that may not happen for another 60,000 years......it happened over 5,000 years ago.......in August, the red planet Mars is about to be spectacular.....an encounter that will culminate the closest approach to our plant in recorded historym, and to the naked eye, Mars will look as large as the full moon  now this will eventuate from the beginning of the month of August right to the end of August.

So if any opportunity to take 'night shots' of something never before happened or to happen again, this will be a good practice for all :D

What night-date is this predicted. And all those photographers with 500mm telephoto lens are denied entry and all those with 200mm lens, and all those with 100mm lens are not allowed to compete.

It could by the tyranny of distance never appear to the naked eye the size of the moon

Apparently, it was partly true in 2003. It didn't appear as big as the moon, but it was the brightest thing in the night sky for a while.
I guess what happened was the email kept circulating after the event. The trouble with a couple of the examples I read in the link is they say "in August' or 'this month',when they should also give the year, so it's easy to see how they can be misleading.

me and my daughters.
Well, I've had a good long hard think about this one, a couple of Blue's shots were close contenders especially the one with the traffic light trails in it, and Westoelad's shot of the moon was pretty impressive too.

However, Anna's shot is full of live, verve, vitality, and joy, it shows nightlife for the living, and best of all it is in black and white therefore no colour temperature problems! A good happy night time picture that deserves to win.

So Anna, congratulations, can you email a large copy (around 1024 pixels wide) to south-shields(at)blueyonder(dot)co(dot)uk A.S.A.P. and we'll post it in the blog. Please supply as much detail as possible about the party and the night out and a little detail about the camera that it was taken on.
