thanks baldy... i was also chasing a dragonfly down at the beach earlier on in the day as there were hundreds of them flying around.. but no go.. and those flies that I did end up getting are only around 1cm long so very hard especially when i was pushing an f18 aperture (i think)... i had to slow the shutter speed down too for that aperture to 1/100 i think it was.. i started at 1/200 and worked my way back... but in the end i got there... they had slightly different colouring on them as well… like in my shot, that faded yellow and also how your tweek is… a brighter yellow.. not sure if it’s something to do with the s*x of the thing or not..

beachy... that snake looks like a python..

I hope not.

Whatever it is, I would't want it to bite my ass.

Bluey boy, you have excelled yourself with that one.
Love the colours.
What time did you take the pic though?
It sure must be a 'happening' sort of place, if that is the main road.

Curly must still be cogitating-hard decision for him this week. :D

Blue... wrote:This is a Common Hover Fly that i captured this afternoon hanging around one of my Blue Hebe bushes, they visit flowers like bees and wasps do....They are usually seen hovering or resting on flowers... The flies feed on nectar and are the pollinators of plants as well… they are no bother to anyone :)

Common Hover Flies are sometimes confused with bees or wasps because of their mimic their colour and certainly had me confused as to whether they were a native bee or wasp.. damn things.. but if you have a look at its head you will see that its very much like a fly..

Well I was hard pushed to choose out of this lot, I really liked Bri's picture of the Tyne at night but it was too close to one or two others that are already on the site. I don't have too many good macros (they are not my forte, I'll admit) so I've decided on Blue's hoverfly, which as Baldy points out is darned difficult to capture in flight.

Well done to Blue (I'll be in touch shortly.)

Thanks Curly, and thanks for all of the kind comments everyone :D

i've had a bit of time off this week so i've had the opportunity to take a couple of shots i wouldn’t have otherwise taken…

I think that Brians pictures are inspirational that make a few of us want to get out there and take a few shots and also lift our games ;)
