The Mariners are at home to Sunderland RCA this Tuesday evening December 18th, kick off at 7.30pm in an Ebac Northern League fixture, with weather and pitch conditions most hopefully permitting, the forecast is OK, and fingers crossed the pitch will have dried out sufficient to allow the game to go ahead. Following the appearances of both Ramsey and Soulsby during Saturday's friendly, it is greatly hoped that both these two players will be featured during the game, and both will be as new players having been out with serious injuries for four months for the former and longer for the latter with broken tibula and fibula bones. So if all is OK, there will be a warm welcome from the Filtrona faithful to see both these important players back in Shields colours. As with new signings Winter in goal, and in defence Mellish, Lay, Renshaw and also Clarke if recovered from his recent illness, all will give management options and choices previously limited. Up front the presence of Ramsey will give a boost and help the forwards to get back onto the goal standard. Chapim has also returned home for a months holiday to Portugal in the sun which will do him no harm at all. Points are now precious as the half way mark in the season as Skip corrected me is almost upon us, and the clock is really ticking, so we hope to see something of the Shields we know and have missed for a long time in this game. No doubt there will be plenty of encouragement with old faces on the field returning and new faces getting to know each other. An entertaining game is expected and much looked forward to, and most hopefully the right result to get us all into the Christmas spirit.
