ASHINGTON COLLIERS 1 : SOUTH SHIELDS 3.

Post by passtheball »

Possibly the final pre season friendly fixture played this evening was by general consenus the best display of the series by Shields against the side that finished fourth top of the Northern Alliance Premier Division last season, and a good standard of football was on show from the visitors in what was a quite competitive game. The first goal was a good header by Scott Blandford for Shields from a corner and to which a second was added by Chris Feasey, who cut in and beat three men and finished well to earn plaudits as the man of the match for a fine all round display. The home side got a goal on 70 after three attempts to clear were unsuccessful and made for an interesting end to the game as they pressed for a leveller. Shields continued to play well and their third was put away on 80 by Pickering with a good shot to wrap things up. Some good individual performances on view this evening, particularly by Feasey and Blandford, the real stuff starts Saturday week on the 11th at home in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tie against Northern League Second Division outfit Darlington Railway Athletic.
