SSFC v SPENNYMOOR TOWN.

Postby passtheball » Tue Feb 02, 2010 5:28 pm

Hopefully, and dare one even breath the word..... that the weather continues to improve with a steady thaw, with no rain and a fresh wind for the next three days for the Filtrona Park pitch two problem areas to dry out, and that we might at LONG last have a match to enjoy this Saturday, with current league leaders and title favourites Spennymoor as the visitors...... It's been a very long time indeed now it seems since December 12th and the last home game. Also that there may be some good news about much missed defensive duo Richard Paxton and Duncan O'Brien.

Bring them on, these are the games you want to be testing yourself against, lets hope its on and there should be a decent crowd with spennymoor travelling in good numbers and lawson facing his old club for the first time since he left. Should be a cracker, lets just hope the Shields pre xmas turn up

Hi, Im a Cardiff City fan up here for the Newcastle game on Friday and a few of us were thinking of coming along to watch the game Saturday, wonder if you could tell us the nearest Metro station to the ground and directions from there and finally could you recommend a pub we could watch the Merseyside derby in or even better have you a clubhouse we could watch it in.

Bede metro station is the nearest metro station mate.Coming from newcastle get off at bede station go under bridge walk to junction turn right go all the way down the road and filtrona park is on you right hand side. Dont know where you can watch the merseyside derby though but get yourself along to filtrona park should be a good game this one see ya there. There is a clubhouse but not sure if the derby game is on there though.

Anyone know if the game is on or if a pitch inspection is due ? The pitch cannot be in reat condition after this week's snow and rain.

Filtrona Park has only access to Sky Sports News at the moment, but the 'Simonside Arms' public house on Newcastle Road does have Sky Sports 1, and I asked the question on the phone, and was told that there is a 90% certainty of the Liverpool v Everton match being shown at 12.30pm. Directions to this pub are as follows - get off the Metro at Simonside station, which is the one after Bede, (which you have been informed is the station for Filtrona Park) on leaving the station turn left on Wenlock Road and walk to the main Newcastle Road, only two minutes away, here turn right and the pub is located only 100 yards on the right. To get to Filtrona Park after for the South Shields game, head left on leaving the pub, cross the road and keep going for some 500 yards until you reach the industrial estate on Shaftsbury Avenue, there is a supermarket here on the corner. Turn right on Shaftsbury Avenue and continue until you reach the ground, only a five minute walk from the main Newcastle Road. Or on leaving the pub head back to the metro station, get onto the westbound platform, for a metro headed for 'Airport' , any person will help if you ask , get off at the next station 'Bede', go down the stairs and turn left and walk 200 yards to Shaftsbury Avenue, here turn right and Filtrona Park is two minutes walk away. You might be advised to phone Filtrona Park in the morning on 0191 427 9839 before leaving Newcastle, just in case there has been a match postponement through weather conditions. Glad to be of help.
