I spent many an hour in the Economic garage at the Bents, Seaburn. I had two relatives who worked on them for several years. We lived in Whitburn Village at the time.

I was also run over by one on the Coast Road, just up from the New Crown. My friend who was with me at the time was killed in the incident.

The Economic buses were thoroughly covered in a topic some time back and photos of them were posted.

I've already said in two of my posts above "Maroon" with a broad cream stripe.

North Street Youth Club - Remember it well folks. Did a gig there with my band, (around 1967-68), and we were glad to get out of the place. We were offered practice nights there on a regular basis but turned the offer down. As for the buses, I remember the old Economic as being maroon/cream coloured, Northern Buses were Red, Newcastle Buses were yellow and Shields buses were blue with the town crest on the side.

Cheers.

A number of people from my school went to Talbot Road Methodist Church Youth Club which may be the one you are thinking of. They had a reunion not so long ago.

I can remember when the old farm house on the edge of Blackberry Hills/Dorset Ave was turned into a youth club for a while.

Basically a derelict house, but someone chucked some chairs and a Snooker table in and started charging kids to hang about there.

I don't think it was there very long.

I think a nursery school is on the site now.

My uncle John, (Jarrow Petes old mate), used to be a projectionist at the Palladium. He joined the army shortly after it closed.

cheers.

Hi Chris,

Delilahcat is correct, the club was Talbot Road Methodist Club.
I went there quite a bit in the mid '70's myself.
Shame I missed the reunion. I would have loved to have reconnected with some of the characters there. Especially Alice Wyberg!!!
