Yes well the fog horn has been sounding the last couple of nights, haven't heard the little bell at the Groyne clanging tho' maybe cos' it wasn't such a heavy fog?

Just been reading through this thread, and I wondered where
Harton Downhill Infants was?

I used to love the sound of the fog horn - I don't hear it so much now - not near enough I think!

I could ask the same question, used to deal with all the school health/immunisation records for all schools in South Tyneside so I really should know

One of my favourite things is to be down at the beach when the fog horn is going, it's sooo spooky

It's hard to give direction If you don't know the area,

If you know Blackberry Hills, downhill infants backed onto it at the top.

The only primary school I knew around that way was Cheviot Junior School.

Is the school still there, or has it been knocked down?

I used to like listening to it when I used to work night shifts - I used to find it soothing.

One of my friends who used to live in Hereford told me the thing that always makes him feel 'at home', no matter where he is, is the sound of a fog horn.

the bloke drinking beer when fishing reminds me of the Likely Lads film where Terry is fishing on North Shields pier and Bob is having a crisis, classic film, one of the best

Having moved away from Shields in the late 70s, it brings back memories of souter foghorn reading this! Playing on the Leas on foggy nights, I'm sure the ground used to shake when the foghorn blast ended with the lower pitch 'grunt'! Used to find it a bit scary sometimes, going home from the leas along bamburgh avenue, used to run all the way!

The siren and blasting at lizard lane quarry used to scare me too!
