I worked in the Mile End Club myself for a short while to earn extra money for my holidays.

Denis, I knew that area pretty well behind Ripons, all I can say is it must have been before my time.

are you thinking of the old conservative club that was in catherine street which was behing ripons on fowler street, this was a good club with great snooker tables and late bar, best thing you didn't have to be a tory to join.

The Leigion Club was'nt behind Ripons it was further up in Winchester Street.
In the mid sixties they used to have a group on every Wednesday.
It used to get packed, I was there the night the Police raided the place for letting non members in and serving them drinks.
If you were not a member they took your drink off you and put a sticker on as evidence.
The group that was playing that night was Animal Farm.

Good cross section of work there Baldy.
Co-op, Fixer of one armed bandits and an ice cream company
Each one so different to the other.

Talking of ice cream Baldy, apart from Minchella there was also Porettas, the used to have a kiosk in the corner of the market and an ice cream parlour in a side street off King Street, did you know them.
