Searcching for an Old Pub Name

Post by Armitnow »

Hi I am trying to find the name of a pub a relative of mine owned. The pub was on Wellington St Westoe in 1891. A long shot I know but it is amazing what local history buffs can come up with.
Looking on maps there was a lot of demolition in this street for the shopping area.
Or if someone can point me in the right direction to search myself.
Thanks in advance
Regards Jenny

I have looked on the Internet and found two pubs in Wellington Street: 'The Bee Hive', which stood well after the time that Wellington Street was demolished. It is turn was demolished (I have vague memories of it so it probably survived until the early 1950's). I was replaced with another pub of the same name, a short distance away in Mile End Road. The other was 'The Wellington Hotel'. There well may have been others, but that is the only two I have been able to find. There are quite a few pictures of houses in Wellington Street on the Internet. I hope this helps.
