hi everyone.
I'm a newbie and of an age where nostalgia for the Shields I grew up in has taken a firm hold. I remember back in the 80's my dad had a list of all the old pubs in Shields around the turn of the 20th century. there were, I'm sure, a couple of hundred. King Street was littered with them! I've been trying to trace my family tree and there's an idea that my great, great grandmother was innkeeper at the "Stirling Castle" in Wapping Street and is listed in 1891 census. I wondered if any fellow Sandies had such a list or photos?
I've used this site which is great for old pictures and some maps. http://www.southtynesideimages.org.uk/index.php Thanks, Monkeyboy

If you are on "Facebook" I recommend that you join the group "SOUTH SHIELDS RESEARCH THROUGH IMAGING"
you will find plenty of information and old photos there.
