TDE stockyard mobile crane

Post by passtheball »

With interest created by the reunion of former employees and the recent Gazette centre spread article etc, I wonder if any photographs could be most hopefully forthcoming from readers, and or details of any possible such sources of the stockyard mobile crane and the crane garage on Thrift Street ? My father Harry Wray was the crane driver from early 1946 until his retirement in 1972, and these are much requested for family history. In the stockyard was built a small cabin for him made of steel plates, which was complete with a bunk bed and writing table, stove and essential tea making equipment, indeed just about all the comforts of home ! He also had a flower garden by it, which bloomed so beautifully as is very well remembered. Also well recalled is Charlie Thomas, ex RAF WW11 Squadron Leader, who was the company industrial relations officer and time keeper, and also of course very well remembered as the greatly respected and most successful manager of South Shields football club for many years. Any kind help would be greatly appreciated, thank you most sincerely in hopeful anticipation.
