Help about South Shields RAF pilot deceased in WW2

Post by sergio5959 »

I'am an historiacal aviation research ( for hobby, not for job ) and I live
in Italy near Milano.
I send you this e-mail about a RAF aircraft that crashed during ww2, July, 13, 1944 in
northern Italy.
Aircraft: WELLINGTON X HE293, 142 SQDN RAF, 205 GROUP. Airport of
departure: Regina, Italy.
Aircraft crashed near Bergamo 50 km NE of Milano.
Target: Milano-Lambrate marshalling yard. Date: 13 July 1944
A crew member was:

Name: KIRKLAND, WILLIAM
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Flight Sergeant (Air Gunner)
Regiment/Service: Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
Service No: 2211818
Additional information: Son of William and Margaret Duncan Kirkland; husband of Doris Milly Kirkland,
of Heaton, Newcastle-on-Tyne.
Now he is buried in a collective grave in Milan War Cemetery. You see the
web site of CWGC.

His wife's name before marriage was: Doris Milly Cooper, the wedding date was 12 04 1941.

His wife, Doris, in a letter to an office of the RAF, pointed to his address:
81 Birchington Avenue South Shields

In Italy this episode has been completely forgotten.
I would like to find his relatives still alive to have any information about this pilot.
I would like to find:

Doris Milly Kirkland is still alive?
They were married in 1941, William died July 13, 1944: They had childrens?
If Yes, Their childrens are still alive?
I would like to get in touch with their childrens to ask them some information about their father.

Please Can you help me?
Thanks very much
Sergio, Italy

Ciao Sergio, benvenuto a questo sito.

The only information available is, there is no registered birth of any children
from the couple. I believe that Doris M Kirkland away moved from the area
and was remarried to a man named Gardner in 1947, in Paddington London.

Mi dispiace non posso aiutarti di più.

fools talk because they have to say something.

Indirectly related to this thread. A New Zealander this month has just restored to flying condition and has flown the Only Mosquito left in the world in flying condition.
